Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7) aims for universal access to clean, affordable energy, which is essential for progress in various sectors. Achieving this by 2030 requires significant investments in clean energy sources, infrastructure expansion, and technology upgrades. The UAE, through its Green Economy Initiative, aims to be a global leader in green practices and technologies, targeting a 30% clean energy share in power generation by 2030. This commitment extends to Ajman, with the Green Building committee within the Ajman Municipality and Planning Department actively supporting energy conservation.
Ajman University (AU) is deeply committed to the principles of SDG 7, which center on ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable energy for all and promoting sustainable practices. Key initiatives include:
Energy-Efficient Buildings: AU designs energy-efficient buildings that harness natural lighting, reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy efficiency.
Digitalization: Embracing digitalization since 2018, AU optimizes operations to lower its carbon footprint and reduce costs.
Building Management System (BMS): AU has installed a BMS in new buildings and is working to extend the system to existing structures, promoting efficient energy utilization.
Energy Conservation Policy: AU actively encourages its campus community to participate in energy reduction efforts, advocating practices like turning off lights and equipment when not in use, optimizing thermostat settings, and operating equipment efficiently.
AU's unwavering dedication to SDG 7 is reflected in its multifaceted approach to enhancing energy efficiency and fostering a culture of sustainability on campus.
