Sustainable Development Goal 10 (SDG 10) aims to reduce disparities within and between nations, including income inequalities and inequalities related to age, gender, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion, and socioeconomic status. The UAE has taken significant steps to address these inequalities, continuously formulating and implementing policies and initiatives for sustainable development, thus enhancing citizens' quality of life and ensuring equal opportunities across sectors.
Ajman University (AU) advances SDG 10 through various initiatives:
Scholarships for Underprivileged Students: AU provides scholarships for students from lower and lower-middle-income countries, promoting equal access to quality education.
Diversity and Equality Programs: AU fosters diversity and equality among students through peer tutor and mentoring programs, peer leadership initiatives, and various student clubs.
Anti-Discrimination Policies: The university maintains strict anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies for students and staff, ensuring equal treatment and freedom from discrimination based on various factors.
Equitable Salary Structures: AU enforces equitable salary structures for individuals of all nationalities and genders, promoting fair compensation.
Support for People of Determination: AU offers comprehensive services to facilitate the active participation of People of Determination in society.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee: This committee defines diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, develops policies, monitors implementation, and provides annual reports to enhance inclusivity.
Mentoring and Counseling: AU offers mentoring for new employees and confidential counseling services, ensuring an equitable work environment.
By participating in these programs, Ajman University actively promotes inclusivity and works toward reducing inequalities, aligning with SDG 10.
