Sustainable Development Goal 15 (SDG 15) centers on preserving terrestrial ecosystems, sustainable forest management, combating desertification, reversing land degradation, and preventing biodiversity loss. The UAE, in line with UAE Vision 2021, works through the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) to achieve SDG 15. MOCCAE collaborates with local authorities on projects that support the preservation of diverse habitats and ecosystems within the UAE, including 33 legally protected land areas.
Ajman University (AU) actively promotes SDG 15 through these initiatives:
Environmental Health and Safety: Collaborating with external partners to support terrestrial ecosystem preservation, sustainable resource management, and combating land degradation.
Sustainable Campus Practices: Implementing energy and water conservation, recycling programs, and sustainable investment policies to ensure sustainability in campus operations.
Student-Led Initiatives: Encouraging students, faculty, and staff to participate in sustainability clubs and engage in projects that reduce carbon emissions and support terrestrial ecosystem preservation.
AU's commitment to sustainability extends to both its campus and the wider community, actively contributing to SDG 15's objectives.
