Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16) centers on building peaceful, inclusive societies with access to justice and accountable institutions. In line with the UAE's Vision 2021, the country is dedicated to creating a safe and secure environment with an efficient legal system. The UAE promotes international cooperation and diplomacy, with diplomatic ties to 189 countries, hosting numerous foreign embassies, consulates, and international organizations, contributing to SDG 16's objectives.
Ajman University (AU) actively advances SDG 16, focusing on peace, justice, and strong institutions. Key initiatives include:
Inclusive Policies and Environment: AU maintains non-discrimination and diversity policies, fostering an open and accepting campus environment where individuals from diverse backgrounds can learn, engage, and belong, promoting inclusivity, equality, and social cohesion.
Counseling Unit: The Counseling Unit provides free and confidential support services, empowering the university community to address personal challenges, enhance resilience, and unlock potential.
Cultural Diversity: AU celebrates cultural diversity, organizing events and initiatives that encourage cross-cultural exchange.
Academic Training: AU incorporates academic programs and ethical training to instill the values of peace, justice, and strong institutions, graduating a significant number of law students who can contribute to the legal framework and justice systems.
Community Engagement: AU collaborates with local communities, extending its commitment to SDG 16 beyond the campus.
Elected Representation: AU promotes elected representation through student council elections, fostering democratic values and participation.
